Whiskers are showing...

On my daily walk, I pass by these lovely rose bushes and always think I would like to photograph them. I seem to forget that idea as soon as I get home and back into my routine, but yesterday I was in the car as I passed them and realized I had my camera with me.

These shots were taken in manual mode and I'm very happy with them. I didn't edit at all and I like the muted, darker look of the photos.

I think I'm going to try and shoot in manual from now on as it forces me to "think" through what I'm trying to achieve. I think I'll get better at photography in the process. We'll see...

Went out with camera...

but no film! Only kidding. I left my memory card at home so no photos for me.

We took a new walk today and actually I don't think I needed the camera. Not too much to shoot. So instead, I reached into the archives for photos from our last trip to Morro Bay in October. We had foggy conditions most of the time, but I managed to get a few shots that I liked.

Our Easter Sunday...

We did as we always do on Sundays...we took a drive. It was an extraordinarily beautiful day...temps in the mid 60's and just a very slight breeze. No need for a jacket. We saw lots of people out strolling near the water and many having Easter picnics.

Hope your day was wonderful!!

Texture...

I love texture. I try to capture photos of it everywhere I go and it's truly surprising how much you see if you're looking for it. Rusty old buildings and pipes, palettes behind Home Depot, old farm machinery sitting in a field to rust, the neighborhood water pipes, the windshield while going through a car wash, an old muddy lake bed, soil that has been plowed into perfect rows, clouds, a pile of old dead branches... You get the idea, the list could go on and on. I would love to hear your texture suggestions if you want to leave a comment.

One of these days I'll put together a mosaic with all the texture photos I have taken. It will be huge!

It was a lovely day...

We had rain today...all day. That's a real rarity for us and especially this year. It was lovely though. The kind of day you want to stay in and be cozy and warm. We even had a fire in the fireplace.

Talk about weird spring weather. :))

This week's activity...

We spent an afternoon in the Ventura Harbor recently. It started out very cold and overcast but quickly warmed up and the sun came out. It ended up being a gorgeous afternoon near the water.

We enjoyed our time at the harbor. There's a really good seafood restaurant and a couple of great walks to take.

We take a lot of "sunday drives"...

and they are not always taken on a Sunday. When we say we've taken a "Sunday" drive we mean that we've decided to see where the day takes us. It's a nice way to relax and it's always an adventure since there are no expectations. Today we ended up at the Channel Islands Harbor, but on a side we usually don't frequent. It's definitely the more "shabby" side of the harbor as there are two buildings that have been deserted. They were once a restaurant and hotel. I remember them from the 1970's when they were both very "ritzy" places. It's a shame to see the decrepit state these buildings are now in. Even so, there is beauty to be found if you look for it.

My theme is ...orange...

I like the idea of composing a mosaic by color. Hope you like it too!

These photos are from locations in Camarillo, Thousand Oaks, Channel Islands, and Ventura, CA.

Long Beach Swap Meet

Yesterday we went to the LB swap meet. It was the most crowded we've ever seen it....tons and tons of people and therefore, not as much fun as usual. It was difficult to see everything and to get pics, but I got a few. The weather was just right. It was in the low 60s for most of the day with intermittent cloud cover which kept it from getting too hot. Just perfect for a stroll throught the swap meet.

We did find a treasure. I won't share it just yet because I'm not quite sure what we have or what we'll do with it. But, it was exciting!!

A sign of the times...

We took one of our Sunday drives yesterday and ended up at the water, as we very often do. This time however, it was sad. This area has basically been deserted and the buildings, while full of furniture, are being left to the elements. It's beautiful in a rustic sort of way, but it's sad because this corner developement could be so much more.
